寇柏林 1980 年出生於莫斯科,五歲進入莫斯科的葛涅辛音樂學校特殊班,師從柴琳克曼(Tatiana Zelikman),18 歲進入莫斯科的柴可夫斯基音樂學院,師從瑙莫夫(Lev Naumov),在那裡完成學業。

在青少年時期,寇柏林就已經參加過好幾個鋼琴大賽青年組的比賽;他在 18 歲時參加蘇格蘭國際鋼琴大賽拿到冠軍;19 歲,也就是 1999 年,寇柏林贏得布梭尼大賽的冠軍,並獲得米開朗基里紀念特別獎。這個大賽在他拿到冠軍之後,在往後的好幾屆比賽裡都沒有人能奪得冠軍。李雲迪為 2000 年華沙蕭邦國際鋼琴大賽的第一名,而寇柏林則拿到了該屆的第三名。稍後寇柏林則拿下了日本濱松國際鋼琴大賽的亞軍(該屆無人獲得冠軍)。2005 年寇柏林更上一層樓,贏得范克萊本國際鋼琴大賽的冠軍,獲得 20000 美金的獎金,以及一紙錄音合約,也開啟了他巡迴歐美亞洲舉辦音樂會的事業,包括在貝斯音樂廳為范克萊本優勝表演系列與華盛頓表演藝術協會舉辦獨奏會,爾後在法國拉羅克昂迪榮國際鋼琴音樂節、美國拉維尼亞音樂節、波蘭貝多芬音樂節、漢諾威比賽冠軍表演系列、英國土特辛音樂廳,以及德國魯爾鋼琴音樂節進行首演。

2006 年時,寇柏林與紐約愛樂管弦樂團在艾弗里費雪音樂廳首次合作演出,並在貝瑟爾伍茲藝術中心的開幕音樂會上表演。他也受邀為達拉斯交響樂團與皇家利物浦愛樂管弦樂團,在 2006-07 年樂季音樂會進行開幕表演。《今日經典》讚譽寇柏林的演出「演出充滿無邊無際的想像力,是位成功的藝術家。」

他最近合作的樂團包括在英國國家廣播公司先前舉辦的逍遙音樂節中,與英國國家青年管絃樂團首次合作(由艾爾德指揮)、2008 年 12 月在英國蓋茲赫德音樂廳與皇家利物浦愛樂管弦樂團演奏(由佩特連科指揮)、英國阿爾斯太管弦樂團(由漢尼開南指揮)、伯明罕市交響樂團(由辛奈斯基指揮)、柏林德意志交響樂團(由莫羅指揮)、台北國家交響樂團(由赫比希指揮)、波蘭洛治勞愛樂管弦樂團(由卡斯齊克指揮)等,並在法國羅浮宮、英國威格摩爾音樂廳、新加坡濱海藝術中心音樂廳,以及香港上環文娛中心等地進行獨奏會;此外,他還前往巴勒摩與瓦雷瑟等城市舉辦義大利獨奏巡迴演出。再者,他也前往日本舉行季節巡迴表演,並在波蘭杜尼基朵舉辦的國際蕭邦音樂節中負責閉幕表演。2008 年夏天,他將在美國魯伊多索室內音樂節、義大利波爾察諾的布索尼音樂節,以及美國吉利摩鋼琴新星系列中大展琴藝,另外他也將在紐約曼尼斯音樂學院舉辦的國際鋼琴講習音樂節中,擔任講師與表演者。

Alex Kobrin is fast becoming an international name to watch out for. Since receiving the prestigious Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Gold Medal at the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in June 2009, Kobrin solidified his reputation as a rising star to remember, with an outstanding first tour of the United States, including recitals at Bass Hall for the Cliburn Series and for the Washington Performing Arts Society, followed by further debuts at La Roque d’Antheron, Ravinia Festival, Beethoven Easter Festival, Hannover Prize winners Series, Turner Sims and at the renowned Klavier-Festival Ruhr.

Kobrin’s debut with the New York Philharmonic at both the Avery Fisher Hall and for the inaugural concert of the Bethel Woods Arts Centre was hugely successful, where he was described by The New York Times, “Alex Kobrin walks on stage like Clark Kent but plays like Superman!”.

The following season, Kobrin was invited to open concert seasons for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, BBC Proms and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Recent and upcoming engagements include a German tour with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, performing Chopin Piano Concerto No.1, to Munich, Frankfurt and Dortmund, Swedish Radio Symphony/Juraj Valcuha, Ulster Orchestra /Kenneth Montgomery, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin/Ludovic Morlot, Warsaw Philharmonic/Eiji Oue, KBS Symphony Orchestra/Claus Peter Flor, BBC Symphony Orchestra/Krzysztof Urbanski as well as re-invitations to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra together with recitals at the Purcell Room/International Piano Series, Louvre, Wigmore Hall, Busoni Festival, Esplanade Concert Hall, Sheung Wan Civic Centre Hong Kong and a recital tour of Italy including cities such as Palermo and Varese.

Other appearances worldwide include his recital debut in Boston as well as his reinvitation to Ravinia Festival for their annual Labor Day celebration. Other performances include the Fort Worth Symphony, Florida West Coast Symphony, Fox Valley Symphony, Fairbanks Symphony, Flagstaff Symphony, Columbus Symphony, an annual tour to Japan and the International Chopin Piano Festival in Duszniki Zdroj (closing the festival). Kobrin will also be making appearances at the Festival Musique dans le Grésivaudan as well as teaching and performing at the International Keyboard Institute & Festival, Mannes. This season Kobrin will also be performing at Salle Gaveau, Paris, where both Mezzo and ARTE will be broadcasting this recital.

Born in Moscow in 1980, Alex Kobrin began piano studies with Professor Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin Special Music School when he five. In 2003 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatoire where he studied under the late Professor L. Naumov. In 1999 he was the winner of the Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy and was awarded the special prize in memory of A. Benedetti Michelangeli. Shortly following, Kobrin was second-prize winner of the 2003 Hamamatsu Competition (with no first prize awarded) which led to tours extensively throughout Europe, Asia and South America.

In addition to the Van Cliburn Competition disc for Harmonia Mundi (2005) and two volumes of Essential Chopin for international labels, Alex will be releasing a Brahms CD (op.79, op.116 & op.119) on Quartz later in 2010.
